Come to the Village Library on March 28 for a sensory-friendly arts and crafts activity time. There will be accommodations for those who are neurodivergent, including small class size, low lighting, low noise, and activities that can be adjusted to the child’s needs and abilities. This program is geared toward children 5-11 years of age, and registration is required and limited to 8 children. The child's caretaker must remain present and assist their child as needed throughout the entire activity.
This program is brought to you through a partnership between The Village Arts Association (TVAA) and The Village Library. Sign-up at: www.metrolibrary.org/event/neuroaffirming-arts-and-crafts-592597 "Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits" (Harvard Health Publishing 2021). Neurodivergent brains may include: Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Hyperlexia, Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Synesthesia, Anxiety, and more.

A striking new mural now graces the curved concrete wall outside The Village Animal Welfare building, bringing a wave of color, creativity, and community pride to the beloved local shelter. Designed by artist Alex Nash and brought to life by a team of dedicated volunteers, the mural celebrates the joy and companionship that animals bring into our lives.
The mural was a collaborative effort between The Village Animal Welfare and The Village Arts Association (TVAA). Spearheaded by Tara Ayers, Artist Outreach Director for TVAA, and Tyler Weese, Animal Welfare Supervisor at The Village Animal Welfare, the project drew on the talents of volunteer painters Alex Nash, Elora Ayers, Patti Rubin, Tara Ayers, and Erin Varvel. All painting supplies were generously donated by Ace Hardware (Manager Lizzy Lessler) located at 1509 W Britton Rd., The Village, OK, 73120, and by Village residents Mark and Tara Ayers. The mural is open to public viewing at The Village Animal Welfare, located at 1701 NW 115th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73120. A public unveiling was held on July 12, 2025. The shelter welcomes visitors to stop by, take photos, and meet the adoptable pets currently housed at the facility. The Village Animal Welfare is “dedicated to providing every animal with the best possible chance at a happy life,” and this new mural serves as a bold symbol of that mission. |
